Overview

Nestled in the heart of Santa Fe’s Rail Yard district, Steam & Smoke Craft BBQ offers a fresh take on traditional barbecue, blending smoke, steam, and craft to deliver a dining experience that stands apart. This isn’t your typical Texas or Memphis-style BBQ; rather, it’s a distinctive fusion where carefully smoked, tender meats meet bold, inventive flavors.

The main dishes showcase this craftsmanship brilliantly. The TriTip Tostada comes alive with a vibrant habanero chimichurri, adding a spicy, herbal punch balanced by sautéed peppers and onions. For a more refined palate, the duck leg presented atop garden spring greens with a luscious pomegranate reduction highlights the chef’s skill in marrying smoky depth with fresh, tangy notes.

Meat lovers will find the Flagship Sampler irresistible—an assortment of signature smoked cuts paired with a thoughtfully chosen side, offering a well-rounded glimpse into Steam & Smoke’s expertise. The Beef Cheek & Kimchi Slider is a standout for those seeking complex, layered flavors—the richness of the beef cheek confit meets the fiery tang of kimchi, creating a savory bite that lingers. Meanwhile, the Cheddar Jalapeño Sausage adds a kick of heat and creaminess, accentuated by the house’s unique Red Chile Bourbon BBQ sauce.

The side dishes here are not mere afterthoughts. The Fire Roasted Pimento Mac ’n’ Cheese reinvents comfort food with its smoky, creamy texture, while the Fried Potato Salad surprises with crispy edges and a rich poblano cream that adds depth without overwhelming.

Dining at Steam & Smoke is more than just a meal—it’s the warmth of the crew, the quick and attentive service, and the lively yet relaxed picnic-table setting that make this spot memorable. The pit master’s personal touch is evident, seen in how the food arrives hot and fresh, and the chef himself moves among guests ensuring satisfaction. This hands-on approach enhances the community feel, making it an ideal destination for BBQ aficionados and casual food lovers alike.

Whether stopping in after a day exploring Santa Fe or looking for a casual yet refined BBQ experience, Steam & Smoke Craft BBQ delivers quality and character. It welcomes guests who appreciate smoked meats crafted with care, distinctive flavors, and an approachable atmosphere. A stop here is not just about tasting BBQ—it’s about savoring a moment where culinary tradition and innovation meet on the plate.

We had the sampler platter and everything was fantastic! The ribs were competition-style tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked with just the right bite. Every item on the plate was delicious, and you can tell a lot of care goes into the food. Highly recommend this spot if you’re in Santa Fe!

Run, don't walk, to Steam & Smoke Craft BBQ. The food is so delicious, the portions are gigantic, and the service is top-notch. We were so pleased by the level of smoke in the meat - mouth watering! And these guys hustle. The food came out speedy fast and hot off the smoker, and later the chef walked around the picnic tables to see if we were all happy with it. We'll definitely be back.

I just enjoyed the pulled pork and fried potato salad. Wow! The pork was smokey and juicy and the potato salad was unique and tasty. The service was friendly, fast and professional. Note that the chef has his own style; it’s not Texan nor Memphis etc. I’ve been to other bbq joints in town and this is by far the best!

On a whim, we decided to grab bbq to take back to our Airbnb. What a great decision. The pit master and crew were very accommodating and we visited and found we had a Texas connection. We had the pulled pork and sausage. It was delicious; some of the best we have had! Even the pickles were good, and I usually leave pickles on the plate. Run, don’t walk to this place!

Went to Santa Fe for a little getaway and decided to check out the Rail Yard since we had never been there. As soon as we got out of the car we were hit with the incredible smell of smoked meat. We were immediately on the hunt...stopping in at a couple of places we thought might be the source. Nope. We kept going until we spotted it, tucked away in the yard of Nuckoll's Brewery (whose porter is amazingly good) and after being spoiled by the owner AND given a cool run down the history of Dr.Pepper, we ate the best ribs I have eaten in my entire life! Not kidding, guys. They were delicious, with delicious homemade pickles, pickled onions and Jalapeños, and street corn. Ugh! THE STREET CORN! SO good! Amazingly good. And i never got the names of the folks in the truck for which i apologize. If you are ever in Santa Fe and want some REALLY good food, @steamandsmokebbq is the place to go! Give this lovely small biz some love! Hard working, good folks that know how to COOK!

Two important things to know here (well 3). 1) best BBQ in town hands down. You can feel the love seeping through the meat. 2) nicest guys around - thank you for the genuine hospitality. 3) they will love your dog. Period. Viva la Wayne.
